This leaflet is doing the rounds. It’s clearly part of WLC’s 2020 vision and it’s a real pity that it’s one with zero strategy towards sustainability. It’s totally about massive growth. A 22% growth in population by 2020, this isn’t good. Many efforts to reduce CO2 will simply be squashed by WLC’s vision for supporting growth. The only saving grace for us is that little growth is planned around Linlithgow, but we do know that the delays in building bigger communities to our east, are causing the council headaches as it tries to cope with larger numbers at the Academy etc.
Personally, I’m not of the opinion that growth is the answer for WLC or Scotland’s future. We already consume more resources than are available, and no-where on this map to 2020 does it show how we generate more power or cope with more cars, more supermarkets, more gadgets, more houses, etc.. A token railway line is hardly good planning.
I see no environmental community group [perhaps because there isn’t any except LCC on WLC’s list of community planning partners. Should we react. Should we engage ?
I think this is a good article to get a little debate going. So get those comments flying.
