About Us
Formed in 2008, Linlithgow Climate Challenge are a community group based in Linlithgow. We aim to promote awareness of climate change and support local solutions to reduce our town's dependance on fossil fuels and our greenhouse gas emissions.
We are actively driving various projects in town in partnership with local schools, councillors, WLC, Burgh Beautiful, Cittaslow, Linlithgow Business Association and the Energy Savings Scotland advice centre.
As well as meeting as a core group every month, we also have sub-groups who focus on specific topics : Food & Gardening / Energy Saving / Renewables / Waste & Recycling / Transport / Steering Group.
Current Activity :
* We have completed a funding application to enable LCC to progress on a number of large projects. We have done a lot in the first six months, and we look to expand our efforts with financial backing and continued voluntary support. We have been successful in an initial bid to design and deliver a town wide survey to collate peoples views of Climate Change.
* Food group is looking to run educational sessions in the spring to help teach everyone how to grow-your-own fruit and veg.
* Renewables group have run a Renewables Showcase at Sun Microsystems, and are looking to identify possible technologies that could be developed at a community level.
* Energy Saving sub-group are recommending that everyone get loft and cavity wall insulation. These are the cheapest things you can do to your home to save money.
* On Waste, we are helping Cittaslow with a lastic Bag Free campaign, and researching if Freecycle would work in Linlithgow. We would also like to promote the Mail Preference Service, and the Post Office Opt-Out from un-addressed junk mail Service that you can sign up to. Both save you filling your blue bin with unwanted paper.
* Talking to schools. We've been to Low Port, and are booked to visit Springfield. Talks at assembly or class level.
* Books books books. We've managed to get lots of excellent books in the library. None left, they are popular, so just pop back the followign week and take some time to learn more about Climate Change and what you can do about it.
In Future :
We hope to bring many more initiatives to your doorstep. Home advice, surveys, education evenings, guest speakers, focus events, etc. So watch this space.
